After four years, multiple flip-flops on power tariffs and god-knows-how-many power cuts, the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) audit report of Delhi’s power distribution companies is finally out. While it has not been made public yet, The Times of India reported that the CAG report holds the discoms, as the distribution power companies are called, guilty of financial irregularities amounting to as much as Rs 8000 crore.

Note: The three discoms that distribute power in the capital are Anil Ambani’s Reliance-owned BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Limited and the Tata-owned New Delhi Power Limited. All of them operate on a public-private partnership model, where the government holds 49 per cent stake.
