After suffering a cardiac arrest, there were reports that said Amma underwent a heart surgery this morning. AIADMK spokesperson CR Saraswati had said in the morning that “There was an angio procedure this morning, doctors say don’t worry, Amma will be fine”.

However, Apollo hospital has reportedly denied having conducted a surgery, but have not released an official statement.

Amma has been in the hospital for 73 days now. On Sunday morning, the media reported about her recovery and said she was all set to be discharged.

However, by evening, Apollo Hospitals released a statement saying the CM suffered a cardiac arrest and she was back in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

She had been put on an extracorporeal membrane heart assist device after suffering the cardiac arrest. A team of four doctors were flown in this morning to monitor her health condition. Apollo Hospitals also tweeted that Dr Richard Beale from London was consulted with the line of treatment.

Dr Richard Beale from London has also been consulted and he has concurred with the line of treatment by our cardiologists & pulmonologists.

Amma’s fluctuating health condition has created panic across Tamil Nadu with crowds swelling outside Apollo Hospital on Greams Road. Security has been beefed up across the state and outside the hospital with all the roads leading to Apollo being barricaded.

Chennai: Heavy police deployment as supporters gather outside Apollo hospital where Tamil Nadu CM #Jayalalithaa is admitted.

Political leaders across parties have been sending wishes for Amma’s speedy recovery. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu is expected to go to Chennai to take stock of the situation. Even as many political leaders are expected to visit her at Apollo, no one has been allowed to see her including the governor who flew to Tamil Nadu from Mumbai last night . Chennai is currently on high alert with heavy police deployment to control any unruly mob.
