The conspiracy to kill Rising Kashmir editor-in-chief Shujaat Bukhari in Srinagar was hatched in Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Police announced on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, Inspector General Of Police SP Pani added that Bukhari’s murder was carried out by the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba. The 51-year-old journalist was shot dead by gunmen outside his office in Press Colony, Srinagar, on June 14. Three men on a motorcycle had stopped at Press Colony, pulled out their guns, and riddled the bodies of senior journalist and editor of Rising Kashmir Shujaat Bukhari and his two personal security officers.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have said that the suspects “were three terrorists of the banned Lashkar-e Taiba. There was a fourth man, a resident of Srinagar who is now in Pakistan”, according to NDTV. The report also quoted IG Pani as saying, “We have tangible evidence to establish this was done from Pakistan.” The information was obtained after the police identified the shooters from a CCTV footage and found a cell phone trail, the report states.

Photos of the suspects have been released and they have been identified as Sajad Gul, now based in Pakistan, Azad Ahmed Malik, Muzafar Ahmad Bhat and Naveed Jatt.

Gul had left India in March 2017, NDTV reported.
