Govt to award media houses encouraging participation in yoga campaign: Prakash Javadekar

Earlier today, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar announced the government’s decision to honour media houses for their contribution towards creating awareness about yoga. The media houses propagating the idea of “Yoga for Healthy Life” between June 10-25 will be considered for the “Antarashtriya Yog Divas Media Samman”, Javadekar said.

According to the minister, a total of 33 awards will be given—11 each for newspapers, TV and radio channels. A six-member jury will consider the entries in all 23 languages. International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21, it was first organised at Rajpath in New Delhi in 2015.

This year, the government has shortlisted Delhi, Shimla, Mysore, Ahmedabad and Ranchi to hold national programmes to mark the event, the Indian Express reported. Last year, the main event on International Day of Yoga was held at Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.
