This week on NL Hafta, Abhinandan Sekhri, Manisha Pande, Raman Kirpal and Jayashree Arunachalam are joined by Cambridge University professor Shruti Kapila.

They discuss the death of Queen Elizabeth of Britain, her legacy and the expectations from her successor King Charles III. “The institution, that is, the royals have kept up with the times,” Shruti says.

Abhinandan argues that a country which still has kings and queens can’t be considered as “keeping up with the times”.

Noting that people who showed critical placards during the Queen’s funeral procession were arrested, Jayashree remarks that it took her death to show the “mediaeval nature of the British state”.

They also discuss the Congress party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is aimed at reaching out to the public and reinvigorating the organisation. Raman says the yatra is “a tiny step towards resurrection” for the party; Manisha says it's a “total failure”.

This and a lot more.

Tune in.
