Silly stuff we heard celebs say on the Salman Khan verdict on prime-time news

The 13-year-old-long trauma for Salman Khan is finally over. He can now get married! We are not saying this. This is what director and producer Subhash Ghai said after the Bombay High Court on Thursday set aside the trial court’s May 6 verdict, and acquitted Khan of all the criminal charges against him in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

While celebs came out on Twitter supporting Khan, the verdict quite obviously initiated a host of debates, discussions and fiery “tu-tu main-main” on prime-time news, with our very own Bollywood celebrities participating in some of them.

• After an endless sabbatical from the film industry, Nagma appeared on the Times Now Newshour debate and defended Khan and Bollywood celebrities. “It is very unfortunate…why do stars really have to face this? Why is it only when it comes to stars this case is questioned? Any innocent man should get justice.”

Our thoughts exactly. Any innocent man. Even the one who sleeps on the pavements of your city.

• Actor and director Satish Kaushik who directed Salman Khan in his 2003 film, Tere Naam, had a few kind words to shower on Khan on Zee News.

“I am personally very happy you know, because all these years Salman has gone through so much, you know. Matlab kitna humanitarian kaam kiya hai, kitni filmein di hain, kitni hits di hain, kitni fan following badaayi hai,” he said poignantly.

Kitni Bakwaas. You get rewarded for your good work and punished for a crime, Satish ji. One does not cancel out the other.

• Actor of the Page 3 and Mitr: My Friend fame and a close friend of Salman Khan, Naseer Abdullah, appeared on NDTV’s “Left, Right and Centre” last night. Making rather contradictory statements, he said, “He’s a lucky man.” And when asked if he believes whether justice has been served, he said, “I guess not in the eyes of a few, but I am very happy for him because he’s got away.”

Wait, does that imply guilt?

He went on to say, “I would actually say that for anybody, be it anybody, Abhishek Bachchan or Akshay Kumar or anybody because we must remember, because there was absolutely zero intention to hurt anybody.”

Wow, that is great. Khan’s intention were pure and pious, so what if a person died? Bhaijaan has a great heart and that is obviously a legal reason to set him free.

He further went on to say, “what do you do, when somebody has left the body, what do you do. He was willing to make amends.”

Amends with the dead?

Taking a cue from Ghai, the celeb Twitterati brigade came out in full support of Khan.

Twitter was not the only place Anupam Kher voiced his opinion. A very happy Kher told PTI: “I am happy for him. It’s been 13 years since the case is going on… the family was on tenterhooks. He is a good person… he deserves justice. I do feel bad for the people who lost their lives …got injured. I do feel bad for the tragedy.”
