Mysore University suspends professor who was arrested for ‘anti-Ram’remarks

BP Mahesh Chandra Guru, journalism professor at University of Mysore (UoM), who was arrested for “anti-Ram”comments has been suspended from his position in the university. “We have taken a decision in the syndicate to keep him under suspension as per the Karnataka State Civil Service Rule,” Registrar of UoM, Professor C Basavaraju, told Newslaundry. He added that the professor will be reinstated once he gets bail.

The professor has two cases against him, one for making insulting remarks against Lord Ram last year on January 3 and the other for making derogatory statements against Bhagvad Gita during an event, along with a retired professor KS Bhagvan on February 11 of the same year.

Guru was taken into judicial custody on June 17 after he failed to file an anticipatory bail in the case of making insulting remarks against Lord Ram. The professor has been an active critic of the Right-wing, raising his voice against Brahminical hegemony.
