Dear Vijender Gupta, stop complaining and watch YouTube

On the first day of monsoon session of Delhi assembly, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs tried to corner Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the issues of Chinese manjha and revised minimum wages. On Monday, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Vijender Gupta reportedly asked whether the government was in a position to implement the revised wages in its own departments, Old Secretariat and Delhi Secretariat. He said that his questions went deliberately unanswered.

The video of the Delhi Assembly proceedings clearly shows Delhi Labour Minister Gopal Rai responding to the questions raised by LoP Gupta. “This house passed Minimum Wages Amendment Bill,” said Rai. “We sent the Bill to the Centre [Central Government] which laid provisions that if a contractor doesn’t comply to the minimum wages, then he will be fined Rs 50,000 and will have to serve three years term in Tihar [jail].” He further added, it is unfortunate that the Centre returned the file.

Rai assured Gupta that a Delhi government will form a tripartite committee, which will keep an eye on the issue. As per the new tender policy, minimum wages will not be compromised while outsourcing manpower for governmental works. The contractors will be paid 7.5 per cent services charges extra so that they comply with revised minimum wages.
