Air pollution linked to diabetes: Study
Who would have thought ‘air pollution’ and ‘diabetes’ had any connection?
Researchers at German Research Centre for Environmental Health have now found evidence linking air pollution and increased glucose tolerance in human body –a precursor of diabetes.
The link was established after the study tracked the glucose levels of 2,944 participants along with the pollution level in their areas of residence.
The study found that an increase of 7.9 microgram per cubic meter of particulate matter in the air led to a 15 per cent increase in insulin resistance.
The study also found that people who are prediabetic are at an increased risk due to their high blood sugar levels.
