On the run after comparing Mayawati to a prostitute, expelled BJP leader arrested
On the run since he made derogatory remarks about Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president Dayashankar Singh has been arrested from Buxar, Bihar, today, reports news agency ANI. Singh, who has since been expelled from the party for his misogynistic comments, was apprehended by a joint team of Uttar Pradesh Police and Bihar Police.
The arrest comes a day after the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court refused to quash the First Information Report (FIR) against Singh for comparing Mayawati to a prostitute. On the same day, a district court in Vaishali, Bihar, ordered that an FIR be registered against the BSP chief and three other party members for making “inflammatory” statements against Singh, his mother, wife and minor daughter during a protest rally in Lucknow last week. This was in addition to the FIR filed by Singh’s mother Tetra Devi at Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station, and the protest staged by the women’s wing of BJP. Meanwhile, Singh’s wife, Swati, was hospitalised on Wednesday.
