Chase episode 10: The Perfect Candidate – How to Win a Delhi University Election
Delhi University, synonymous with crazy cut-offs and controversies, is also the hub of student politics in the national capital. For many of today’s politicians, Delhi University Student Union [DUSU] Election has been their stepping stone into politics. Arun Jaitley, finance minister of India, was an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) student leader and later became the president of the University Students’ Union in 1974. Ajay Maken was elected the president of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) in 1985. There are many more names in this impressive list.
From August till the first week of September, candidates from different parties enter the fray, campaign and then wait with bated breath for results to be declared. Once the winners name is declared, everyone forgets what it took for the candidate to win the elections and whether it was all worth it. In the new episode of Chase, a collaboration between Newslaundry and ScoopWhoop, producer Raunaq Singh Chopra goes back to the university he graduated from to find out if he still has it in him to win the DUSU election.
