NL Tippani: Stop the Obsession with “Surgical Strike”! Seriously.
The obsession with adding the suffix ‘-gate’ to every scandal (like Radiagate, Coalgate, etc.) is finally over, and the media, not to mention several over-excited politicians have taken to terming every big move a “surgical strike”. Modi’s address to the nation on November 9, announcing the government’s move to ban the in-use currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 “to break the grip of corruption and black money”, has given rise to two factions – one, calling the move anti-poor and the other, praising it for its supposed positive impact. Standing on the boundaries are some BJP leaders and journalists flashing their poms poms, cheering the PM for the “historic” move, declaring it a “surgical strike” on black money hoarders!
Really, that’s what we’re calling it? Watch what Madhu Trehan has to say on this episode of NL Tippani.
