Last week, a ‘surgical strike’ was conducted on our civil liberties. Not by the government, but by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered all cinema halls across the country to play the national anthem before the screening of films and that all present must “stand up in respect” till the anthem ended. Akash Banerjee wonders how the Court found time to address this issue given the list of pending cases. He also questions why the anthem won’t be played in court.
