NL Tippani: No, a defamation suit is not an attack on your freedom
The media, and a lot of people are currently all up in arms over ‘Freedom of Expression’ and assaults on said law. From Madhu Kishwar, Suresh Chavhanke to the odious Bincy Lal – all have either been accused of violating or of being oppressed by Article 19 of our Constitution’s Freedom of Speech and Expression law. Clearly, there is some misunderstanding of what this law covers. Abhinandan Sekhri explains the difference between freedom of speech, defamation and simply “being a jerk”.
