Yogi Adityanath sanctions funds for upkeep of memorials built under Mayawati gov

A decade and a half after a Thakur- Yogi Adityanath- took charge as the Chief Minister of the state, he is now making efforts to reach out to the Dalit community of the state. The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore to revamp parks, and memorials built under Mayawati between 2007 to 2012.

While some of these projects will undergo repair and revamping, other projects that were left incomplete will also be completed. Added to the project, the government has also sanctioned Rs 7 lakh for the next seven months for providing food to Buddhist monks in Buddha Vihar Shanti Upwan.

According to an Indian Express report, an official from Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), Jaishankar Dubey, confirmed that repair works at Kanshiram Memorial were already on while tenders for other projects were yet to be given through e-tender. “Repairing of lights in these memorials and parks will be done in the first phase. Fountains too will be repaired. Damaged stones will be replaced,” Dubey was quoted as saying. “The green area has dried due to lack of irrigation. This will be fixed. Also, the light bulbs and halogen lights installed in these buildings would be replaced with LED lights to save energy,” he added.

This developments comes after Mayawati urged Yogi Adityanath to ensure maintenance of these memorials and parks if he was really concerned about Kanshiram. However, the previous government under Akhilesh Yadav had alleged financial irregularities and had shut most lights in these memorials to save energy. She had earlier alleged that the projects which were developed at around Rs 6,000 crore were neglected by the Samajwadi Party government.
