Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif files review petition against his disqualification by the Supreme Court

The recently ousted Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday filed a petition with the Pak Supreme against his disqualification from office by a five-member bench on July 28 on corruption charges.

The Pakistan apex court had sacked Sharif for not declaring his assets before the tax authorities “honestly”. Sharif and his three kids—Hassan, Hussain and Maryam Nawaz were being investigated in the Panama Papers case, which revealed that the children owned expensive residential property in London through a string of offshore companies.

While the governing political party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, appointed Shahid Khakan Abbasi as the interim Prime Minister, they rejected the apex court’s verdict.

Sharif is also facing corruption cases which will be prepared by the National Accountability Bureau, the country’s apex anti-corruption organisation. While the anti-corruption body has six weeks to finalise the cases, the Supreme Court has deputed a judge to supervise the completion of the cases within six months.
