NL Interviews: Senior advocate Colin Gonsalves speaks on torture
India signed the United Nations Convention Against Torture in 1997 and pledged to ratify it in 2011. Cut to 2017, India is yet to ratify the convention as the Supreme Court will hear the case with respect to the petition filed by former Union Law Minister Ashwini Kumar. Supreme Court lawyer Colin Gonsalves talks to Newslaundry about why India needs to ratify the convention and why India needs an anti-torture legislation. Here’s the interview:
