‘Errant remarks affect our image, give media masala’: PM Modi tells BJP MPs, MLAs

BJP leaders like Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan and Union Minister of State for Education Satya Pal Singh have recently made news for their outlandish comments in the media. In an attempt to curb bad press from such statements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to his party members with NaMo app with a little advice. He told party members that unnecessary remarks by BJP MLAs and MPs provide media with “masala”. Modi said in the video, “We consider ourselves experts and intelligent, so we tend to give comments whenever we see cameras. Then the media takes bits and pieces of it, according to what they want, and use it.”

Furthermore he said, “Don’t blame the media. They are doing their work. You don’t need to stand before the TV cameras to guide the nation. Those who are entrusted with that work will do it.”

Modi also said, “Initially, when we formed the government, there were a few MPs — around eight to 10 — they would speak a lot. I spoke to them and I have seen in the past three years, they have stopped giving statements,” he said.
