#KarnatakaVerdict: BJP set to be king without the ‘kingmaker’
After a month-long intense political battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress, or, as some would like to put it, between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi, results have started trickling in.
According to the Election Commission website, the status is known for 214 out of the 224 constituencies. BJP has an easy lead with about 114 seats, while the Congress is at 58 seats and the Janata Dal (Secular) is at 39.
Congress Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is losing his Chamundeshwari seat with a margin of 22,266 votes. GT Deve Gowda of JD(S) is currently at 57,322 seats. In Badami, the contest seems neck and neck, but Siddaramaiah is currently leading with 40,960.
In Karnataka’s bellwether seat, Shirahatti, BJP is leading with 42,384 votes.
