Sexual harassment case filed against Republic TV’s Assam Correspondent

A sexual harassment FIR has been filed against Republic TV’s Assam Correspondent Aniruddha Bhakat Chutia by a Guwahati-based journalist.

According to Northeast Now, the victim alleged that Chutia had taken her to a house in Jayanagar area located in Guwahati and then physically attacked her.

According to a report in Northeast Now, the victim said: “Accused Anirudha Bhakat forcefully took me from Six Mile area of the city to a house at Jayanagar while I was on my way to my residence from office. In the house, which was locked from outside, he first physically attacked me and when I tried to stop him, he sexually assaulted me.”

The case was registered in Dispur Police station on December 1 under Section 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 392 (Punishment for robbery), 354 (Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.

The victim also alleged that police authority was initially hesitant and refusing to register the case and have not even recorded her statement. She also stated that was pressured to drop the charges.

Chutia was detained for one night under section 41 (a) of the CrPc.
