Congress picks Kamal Nath as new Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister
Senior Congress party leader Kamal Nath (72) was made the chief minister-designate for Madhya Pradesh late on December 13. He will become the first Congressman to govern the state since Digvijay Singh.
Nath was one of two contenders for the job, the other being Lok Sabha MP Jyotriaditya Scindia.
The decision came after hours of deliberation over the issue by Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi and the party high command.
The official Twitter account of the Indian National Congress also congratulated Kamal Nath in a post.
“With wins in 114 seats, the Congress party has not done enough to secure a clear majority but has scraped past the halfway mark with the help of the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party — both influential parties in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh,” said an article in India Today.
