10% reservation in government jobs for economically weaker upper castes
The Union Cabinet on Monday approved a 10 per cent reservation in government jobs for “economically backward” upper castes.
According to an article in the Indian Express, the reservation would be for those who belong to upper castes and earn less than ₹ 8 lakh per year.
A bill to amend Article 15 and 16 of the constitution is expected to be moved in parliament tomorrow, to this effect.
Currently, the apex court has capped the quota for caste-based reservation for government jobs at 50%.
