Asaram Bapu’s son Narayan Sai convicted in rape case
A Surat district court on Friday found Narayan Sai—son of self-styled godman and rape convict Asaram Bapu—guilty of rape. While pronouncing the order to a packed court, Judge P S Gandhi said Sai’s sentence would be pronounced on April 30.
He was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including rape, unnatural sex, molestation, wrongful confinement, unlawful assembly and criminal conspiracy.
According to The Indian Express, Sai, who was present in court, was seen laughing with his lawyer ahead of the judgment.
Narayan Sai was arrested in 2013 in the rape case of a Surat-based woman who was a disciple of his father. The rape case was filed in the same year (2013) by the woman and her sister. The woman had accused Sai of repeated sexual assault when she was living at Asaram’s ashram in Surat between 2002 and 2005.
