Watch: When thousands of people gathered at Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid to protest against citizenship law
As nationwide protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act gathered momentum, thousands of people demonstrated at Jama Masjid in Old Delhi on December 20. The protest was attended by, among other prominent people, Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad.
In the evening, as the demonstration at Jama Masjid started dispersing, some protesters marched towards Delhi Gate, where violence erupted. The police beat up and teargassed the protesters, leaving at least 36 people injured. Forty people, including several minors, were detained as well.
