Reporters Without Orders Ep 96: Police brutality in UP, citizenship law protests, and more

In this week’s episode, host Snigdha Sharma is joined by our reporters Basant Kumar, Ayush Tiwari and Ayan Sharma who have just returned from covering the protests against the citizenship law in Uttar Pradesh and Assam, and the police brutality against the protesters. 

Ayush and Basant talk about how the Uttar Pradesh police are getting away with murder; they are refusing to file FIRs and making contradictory statements on the killings of protesters. Ayan explains how the citizenship law protests in Assam are different than elsewhere in India. He also talks about how the nuances of the Northeast’s sociopolitical issues are ignored by the Indian mainstream media.
