Mumbai police arrests two members of Indian Youth Congress for allegedly attacking Arnab Goswami
The Mumbai police arrested two members of the Mumbai chapter of the Indian Youth Congress for allegedly attacking Republic TV chief Arnab Goswami.
The accused have been identified as Prateek Mishra and Arun Borade, both officebearers of the Youth Congress in the Sion-Koliwada Assembly constituency. Mishra is the general secretary of the Sion-Koliwada Youth Congress and Borade is the president.
Goswami alleged that he and his wife were attacked last night by two Youth Congress workers while on his way back home from the Republic office in Mumbai.
According to an FIR filed at the NM Joshi Marg police station, Mishra and Borade blocked Goswami's vehicle, banged on the windowpane, and threw ink at it. The accused have been booked under Sections 341, 504 and others of the Indian Penal Code.
Abhinash Kumar, the deputy commissioner of police, Zone 3, confirmed to Newslaundry that the FIR carries the names of Mishra and Borade, and that they belong to the Indian Youth Congress.
The Mumbai police also released a press note, detailing that Goswami had filed a complaint over the alleged attack. The press note says he was travelling with his wife and bodyguard when the vehicle was blocked.
Both Borade and Mishra appear to be close to Ganesh Yadav, the president of the Mumbai Youth Congress, and have shared several photos with Yadav on their respective Facebook pages.
Newslaundry reached out to Suraj Singh Thakur, the vice-president of the Mumbai Youth Congress. Thakur said: "As of now, we don't have any information on these guys. But I don't think there's any truth in the allegations of Arnab Goswami."
A Congress party source in Mumbai said: "The actual plan of the boys was to throw ink on him through the window but it didn't work as he didn't open the window. But now Goswami is blowing it out of proportion."
Newslaundry repeatedly tried to contact Ganesh Yadav, president of the Mumbai Youth Congress, but he did not respond.
Goswami has been at the centre of a storm when, during a show, he accused Sonia Gandhi of getting the sadhus in Palghar killed and sending reports to Italy about how she has managed to bump off Hindus in states where she governs. Not only this, according to Goswami, she was congratulated for her work by people in Italy.
