Nepal army slams reports by Hindustan Times, TFI Post as 'woven with lies, innuendo and mischief'

The Nepal army has issued a statement warning of "propaganda", citing two stories published in Hindustan Times and tfipost.com. The letter said the two reports were "woven with lies, innuendo and mischief".

The Hindustan Times report stated that a constitutional amendment, "pushed hard" by Nepal prime minister KP Sharma Oli to alter Nepal's map, had been "put on hold". It also alleged that Oli asked Nepal's chief of army staff, General Purna Chandra Thapa, to "deliver a public rebuttal" over a remark by India's army chief Gen. Manoj Mukund Naravane, but Thapa "declined".

Tfipost.com picked up the same story and reproduced its claims.

In its statement, the Nepal army said "nothing could be further from the truth in the writeups". Stating that the army "functions well within the parameters of the constitution, and maintains its glorious tradition of discipline, restraint and accountability and respect towards the highest executive office in the country", it called the reports "reckless, mischievous and irresponsible", with "scant respect to the truth and facts".
