Three Kerala journalists approach police over online harassment by CPI(M) supporters

Three Kerala-based journalists approached the police after they were reportedly harassed on social media by supporters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The News Minute identified the journalists as Nisha Purushothaman, chief news producer at Manorama News; Kamalesh KG, principal correspondent at Asianet News; and Prajula Kamalesh, news editor at Asianet News.

According to the News Minute report, the journalists "alleged that during the coverage of the pandemic, the gold smuggling case and the recent floods in the state, they have been targeted online and their families dragged in."

Manorama's Purushothaman told the news website that she was being harassed online by, among others, Vineeth VU, an employee of Deshabhimani, the CPI(M) mouthpiece.

The Deshabhimani editor P Rajeev said the paper is "against cyber bullying" and that Vineeth is a temporary employee.

The News Minute reports: "On Monday, the Chief Minister also reacted saying that people should engage in healthy debates and not indulge in personal attacks. He said that he will look into the complaints about the harassment of journalists."
