Kashmiri lawyer and TV panelist Babar Qadri shot dead in Srinagar
Babar Qadri, a Kashmiri lawyer who frequently appeared on TV news debates, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Srinagar on Thursday evening.
"He succumbed to injuries while being transported to the hospital," India Today quoted an unnamed senior police officer as confirming.
Qadri, who lived in Old Srinagar’s Hawal, had been a lawyer for over a decade.
In his last tweet, Qadri had urged the police to file an FIR against a Facebook user for running a “wrong campaign” alleging that the lawyer worked for “agencies”, a euphemism for the Indian security establishment in Kashmir.
Former chief minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack and described Qadri’s killing as a “tragedy”.
