The Citizen's Seema Mustafa becomes first elected president of the Editors Guild of India

Seema Mustafa, founder-editor of the Citizen, has been elected president of the Editors Guild of India.

The guild held its first ever election on Zoom on Friday, Indian Journalism Review reports. Mustafa defeated the Sunday Guardian's MD Nalapat with 87 votes to 51. Sanjay Kapoor was elected as general secretary, after contesting against Smita Prakash, with 90 votes to 50. Anant Nath of the Caravan was elected treasurer unopposed.

Earlier, new office-bearers were selected based on consensus, not by election.

Mustafa, Kapoor and Nath replace Shekhar Gupta, Ashok Bhattacharya, and Sheela Bhatt respectively on the executive committee of the guild. Both Gupta and Bhatt congratulated the new office-bearers on Twitter.
