TRP scam: Former BARC chief executive officer Partho Dasgupta arrested
Partho Dasgupta, the former chief executive officer of BARC, has been arrested in the TRP scam, Exchange4media reported. The report said that Dasgupta "has been arrested from Rajgad Police Station jurisdiction in Pune Rural and is being brought to Crime Branch, Mumbai".
Dasgupta is the second person connected to BARC to be arrested in connection with the case. Last week, the police had arrested Romil Ramgarhia, the former chief operating officer of BARC.
According to the Mumbai police, some channels, including Republic, are involved in this case, which involves the "manipulation" of ratings, or TRPs. Subsequently, BARC announced the suspension of ratings of news channels for three months to “review its already stringent protocols and further augment them”.
Earlier this month, Republic's chief operating officer Priya Mukherjee got anticipatory bail in the same case. On December 5, the sessions court had granted bail to Republic TV's assistant vice president, Ghanshyam Singh, who was arrested in the same case on November 10.
