YouTube suspends Donald Trump’s account for a week

YouTube has joined an array of social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter to suspend US president Donald Trump's account over “concerns about the ongoing potential for violence”. The video sharing platform issued a statement on Twitter accusing Trump of “violating its policies” and announcing that his channel has been“temporarily prevented from uploading new content for a minimum of 7 days”.

The comments section on the channel, which has 2.8 million subscribers, has also been “indefinitely disabled”. “The video that prompted the YouTube suspension came from Mr Trump’s remarks on Wednesday before a trip to Texas to visit a partly completed portion of his long-promised wall along the Mexican border,” the New York Times reported.

In the wake of violent riots at the US Capitol, which the president was accused of instigating, Facebook suspended Trump from Instagram until the end of his term on January 20, while Twitter banned him permanently. Snapchat, Reddit and Twitch clamped down as well.
