That ‘BJP worker’ killed in Bengal? He’s an India Today journalist, and he’s alive and well
The Bengal BJP last night posted a video on Facebook showing one Manik Moitro who it alleged had been killed in post-poll violence by Trinamool Congress workers in Sitalkuchi constituency. This morning, Abhro Banerjee, an India Today journalist, tweeted that it was him in the picture, not some Manik Moitro.
He was "living and hale and hearty and around 1,300 km away from Sitalkuchi", the journalist added, cautioning against such fake posts.
Since the assembly election result was declared on Monday, Bengal has reported several incidents of political violence. The BJP has accused the Trinamool of allegedly killing six of its workers and ransacking homes and offices of its supporters. The governing party has rejected the allegations and claimed that its own members were killed in the clashes. The CPIM and the ISF have also alleged violence against their members.
The social media feeds of the BJP and several of its leaders are filled with videos of the alleged clashes in Bengal.
