'A channel with a positive leaning': India Today group launches 'Good News Today'

The India Today Group is all set to launch a new Hindi news channel called Good News Today. According to the group, the channel's slogan will be "Acchi Khabar, Sacchi Khabar" and will "celebrate the narratives of the glass half full".

Good News Today was described as "a channel that doesn't assume the doom and gloom of the world, but bravely opens its eyes to the immense possibilities abound. It will showcase stories of hope, human triumph, innovation and inspiration from different walks of life, from different parts of India and the world."

The new channel plans to avoid "debates" in favour of "compelling storytelling" which will also "highlight solutions and shine the light", as the group's vice-chairperson Kalli Purie told BestMediaInfo.

Purie told BestMediaInfo that it "just takes one brave news channel to shift the spectrum" at a time when there's "more good news than bad news" in real life.

"We’ve got into a chronic bad habit of consuming bad news," she said. "...People need a ray of hope. An injection of optimism. That’s how we came out of this traumatic crisis. Look at the stock market sentiment. We are ready. India is looking to move past and with full speed ahead."

Purie emphasised that Good News Today will not "gloss over reality" and will "in some situations, hold those responsible for bad news accountable".

"Also," she said, "if you can have channels that have a right or left leaning, why not one with a positive leaning."
