Reporters Without Orders Ep 190: Anti-namaz protests, love jihad, honour killings

This week, host Akanksha Kumar is joined by Newslaundry’s Tanishka Sodhi and the News Minute’s Prajwal Bhatt. The discussion revolves around the idea of religious divide through the most insignificant things in today’s India.

Tanishka begins with her recent ground report on the Gurugram protests demanding a stop to the Friday prayers in a particular area. She says the protesters “feel angry and agitated and think that it’s unsafe for the residents” and that they “link their religion to Indianness”.

The discussion then shifts to Prajwal’s report from Belagavi district in Karnataka where a Hindu woman’s family allegedly hired contract killers to murder her Muslim boyfriend. “It’s not that we have reached this point overnight,” he says. “It’s a slow burn that has been bubbling away for the last few years.”

This and a lot more as they talk about what made news, what didn’t, and what shouldn’t have.

Tune in.
