Hafta letters: Newsance behind the paywall, subscription renewal, COP26

I recently heard on one of the Hafta episodes that you are planning to take Newsance behind the paywall. I implore you to consider that carefully. It seems to me that Newsance is a great avenue for people to discover Newslaundry and the various shows and stories you cover. It would be really sad if in order to get higher conversion to subscribers, you lose out on greater exposure.

Hi NL team. You guys do a fantastic job, keep up the good work. Next month my renewal is due and I don't mind subscribing even for two or three years if there are some goodies involved 😁. Also, though already discussed, but loved one of the suggestions of converting all your news articles into podcasts so one can listen even while doing some chores. I hope this is added in the NL app.

Will renew for one year even with no goodies. 😛

Hi guys, learned a bit late about the IT raids and in a panic attack I topped up a few projects and student subs with what I could afford. In Hafta 353 on COP26: I found your and your guest’s stance towards Modi’s, soft and meek. For all he has done is made this an orgy of a photo ops event. His commitment to generate more power without reducing coal consumption is only a band-aid fix to a haemorrhage. Someone needs to remind this government that photoshopping Modi beside solar panels does not cut emissions.

What frustrated me more was the banter around absolving India’s responsibility to control emissions because we did not commit these crimes in the past. It’s the same Hindu fanatic rationale that we can do all evil now because we couldn’t do them in the past. Just in this case, you replaced Pakistan with the US as a punching bag.

I am disappointed that with this approach, the only future for the next generation is to either die in a right-wing sponsored civil war or by breathing the air.
