J&K TV actor dead, 10-yr-old nephew injured as militants open fire: cops
Amreen Bhat, a 35-year-old local television actor from Jammu and Kashmir, has died after suspected militants shot at her and her 10-year-old nephew outside her home in Hishroo village of Budgam, Kashmir Observer reported.
Kashmir zone police tweeted that Bhat was taken to hospital but she did not survive the attack that took place Wednesday evening. Her nephew is reportedly undergoing treatment and is in a stable condition.
Police have sealed the area where the attack took place, according to Kashmir Observer. They said “three terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT [Lashkar-e-Taiba] were involved in this heinous terror incident”.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to offer his condolences.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also condemned the attack. “No words are strong enough to condemn heinous terror attack in Budgam. Deepest condolences to family of Amreen Bhat & prayers for fast recovery of her injured nephew. We’re firmly resolved to demolish terror ecosystem that continues to receive reinforcement from across the border,” he told ANI.
