NL Interview: MediaOne editor on SC judgement and ‘anti-establishment’ journalism
In a landmark judgement on April 5, the Supreme Court quashed the central government’s telecast ban on Malayalam news channel MediaOne.
The court said that “critical views of the media cannot be termed as anti-establishment” and that the central government had used the “plea of national security to deny the rights of citizens.”
In a conversation with Newslaundry’s Tanishka Sodhi, MediaOne’s edit Pramod Raman speaks about why this is a landmark judgement for the media in India, why journalism should be anti-establishment, the hate campaign against the channel online, and how the Sabarimala verdict was a turning point for media in Kerala.
