FoE Con 2023: How the law helps take down digital news content
On April 1, Newslaundry and the Internet Freedom Foundation hosted FoE Con 2023, a forum that brought together media personalities and leading voices in the legal sphere to map the media and regulatory framework in contemporary India.
The panel discussion “Ctrl+Alt+Delete” was moderated by Abhinandan Sekhri, who was joined by satirist Akash Banerjee, freelance journalist Sakshi Joshi and Supreme Court lawyer Shahrukh Alam.
While discussing the IT rules and allegations of “online censorship”, the panel talked about how digital news professionals have tackled legal repercussions. They also spoke about the space for fearless commentary on the internet.
“The best content would hardly make it on air,” said Banerjee, while Alam talked about the law mirroring the hierarchy in society. Sakshi Joshi, meanwhile, detailed the struggles of independent journalists.
