TV Newsance 215: R Bharat’s Biparjoy joke and the truth about Uttarkashi
As Cyclone Biparjoy hit Gujarat this week, we were hit by some crazy reporting from Republic Bharat’s anchor Sweta Tripathi. She stumbled around the studio with an umbrella, visuals of a cyclone in Florida playing behind her – all while reporting on Gujarat.
This isn’t Sweta’s first tryst with over-the-top reporting. We take a look at her exploits during the Sushant Singh Rajput case. Meghnad makes a special appearance to show us how Republic Bharat anchors might report on different natural calamities.
Meanwhile, some very disturbing news emerged from Uttarakhand. Muslim families had to leave the town of Purola in Uttarkashi district after accusations of ‘love jihad’ were levelled against them. Sudhir Chaudhary as usual was front and centre with dogwhistles, telling viewers the growing Muslim population is a threat. Suresh Chavhanke went the same way on Sudarshan News. Instead of showing the truth on the ground, news channels didn’t miss a chance to peddle ‘love jihad’ conspiracy theories.
