TV Newsance 224: ENBA Awards, OCCRP’s report on Adani and NDTV’s defence pitch
This week was celebratory for India Today as 111 awards were heaped on the group at the ENBA Awards – 109 if you listen to Anjana. To our bemusement, the usual suspect at TV Newsance, Sudhir Chaudhary, won the ‘Maverick of The Year’ award. Anjana Om Kashyap was awarded for ‘spot reporting’ from atop a bulldozer during a demolition drive in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.
We also took a look at the jury for the ENBA, which interestingly included names of Sambit Patra, Amit Malviya and Gaurav Bhatia. Newslaundry managed to get exclusive footage of the jury members deciding the list of winners for the awards.
The week also saw big revelations by the OCCRP, spelling trouble for the Adani Group. A set of documents accessed by the US think tank revealed that two gentlemen, Chang Chung-Ling and Nasser Ali Shaban Ahli, related to the Adani family had allegedly manipulated Adani stocks. Even before the reports on it were published, Arnab blamed who else but his favourite George Soros for “conspiring against India”.
Amid this, most of the Indian legacy media observed a conspicuous silence, but Adani’s NDTV sprung to its owner’s defence with anchor Vishnu Som leading the charge.
