TV Newsance 229: ED raids on NewsClick, Rubika’s desperate bids for our attention
This week started off with the Enforcement Directorate’s crackdown on journalists, satirists, writers, and contributors associated with NewsClick – both current and former. At a time that calls for solidarity among media personnel to condemn this police action, we saw most of our primetime anchors cheering the move.
After NewsClick’s founder Prabir Purkayastha and HR head Amit Chakraborty were charged under the anti-terror law, UAPA, the usual suspects on TV news wondered why there is “selective outrage”. Despite the purported breach of due process in the police action, the anchors suggested nothing was wrong.
Meanwhile, politicians too were on the law enforcement agencies’ radar. While the ED arrested AAP’s Sanjay Singh and tax authorities raided DMK MP S Jagathrakshakan’s properties, Sudhir speculated who could be next.
Amid all this, there was a primetime anchor who has been doing her best to defend the dear leader for weeks – also trying to earn a feature on Newsance. She finally caught our attention. Who is she?
