WAN-IFRA awards: Newslaundry app bags gold as the best innovative digital product
The Newslaundry app has been honoured as the ‘Best Innovative Digital Product’ at the Digital Media Awards South Asia 2023. The award in its seventh edition, is organised by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).
Giving Newslaundry the ‘gold’ award in the category, the jury noted, “The stand-out entry demonstrates best-in-class, audience-focused product development. What is particularly positive about the entry is not only the product-market fit but also the business-model product fit. It demonstrates the virtuous cycle possible with a reader-revenue-led newsroom, where the audience is central to business and product development.”
Product is not a term you hear that often for news.
Unlike ad-based media where most engineering and product efforts are optimised for serving ads better, our subscription model enables us to truly focus on user needs. And this award is a testament to our subscribers’ support and faith in our work. Not to forget, more than 500 readers had contributed to fund the app’s development back in 2021.
This is the third award for our tech and product team – Rishabh Dixit, Danish Shaikh, Aditya Vikram, Dhananjaya Kumar and Rishabh Pandey. Last year, Newslaundry had won the INMA Global Media Award and the AFAQs Digipub Media Award.
