‘My son is in the fray, have to make him win’: Harish Rawat on Uttarakhand poll losses, ‘nepotism’

After meeting young voters in Dehradun, Another Election Show decided to catch up with Harish Rawat, the former Uttarakhand chief minister and a Congress Working Committee member.

While Rawat – who had faced consecutive defeats in the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls – is not contesting this time, his son Virendra Rawat is in the fray from Uttarakhand’s Haridwar.

Responding to rumours that he has kept away from the Congress campaign in the state, Rawat said he wasn’t told by the party to campaign for it. 

In a conversation with Newslaundry, the Congress leader also tackles questions about his election defeats, Congress turncoats, Uttarakhand’s Uniform Civil Code, and allegations of nepotism surrounding his son’s candidature.

Rawat, however, is confident that people will vote for change this time and that the INDIA bloc will win at least five seats in the state and over 250 across the country.
