Punjab: Why are farmers protesting outside houses of BJP candidates?
In Punjab, BJP candidates campaigning in villages have been facing backlash with farmers confronting them with questions over the Modi government’s policies, farmers’ protests and police action during protests. The farmers have even begun staging protests outside the homes of the BJP candidates.
On May 28, farmer organisations held a day-long protest in front of the residence of the BJP’s Amritsar candidate, Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Newslaundry spoke to farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher to understand the triggers behind the protests, their demands, and the mood of the voters in Punjab. We also reached out to Taranjit Singh Sandhu, but he denied having any knowledge of the protests.
