Newsance 279: Rahul Gandhi, parliament ‘assaultgate’ and the media circus
This week was marked by “Assaultgate” in parliament, as opposition MPs and those from the governing parties traded accusations of insulting Ambedkar. Chaos erupted, two MPs were taken to the hospital, and a media circus followed.
From confusion over facts to AI-generated historical figures and concerns about the alleged “violence” by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the actions of our usual suspects completely distracted from Home Minister Amit Shah’s statements that had sparked the controversy.
We also saw theories about Rahul “receiving talking points from abroad” to attack the Modi government, while anchors, particularly Arnab Goswami, speculated on the impact of Prime Minister Nehru’s relationship with Edwina Mountbatten.
The episode also includes a sneak peek of a very special interview with veteran TV news anchor Rajdeep Sardesai.
