Let Me Explain
Let Me Explain: How a road rage incident in Bengaluru got a North vs South spin?
News headlines, panel discussions, social media posts – a recent road rage incident in Bengaluru has led to much outrage anywhere and everywhere you look.
Because the incident involved an Indian Air Force officer, the issue snowballed into an “attack on the Armed Forces” in no time. What was the other side’s version? What did the police say? What did the witnesses say? – All these questions were put to the side so that a one-sided narrative could become the only truth that existed.
A section of the media even made the incident into a “Kannada vs Hindi” issue and villainised people protecting their local language and culture.
Why is the mainstream media fanning such divisive flames? Is there a concerted effort to paint South India less nationalistic? In this episode of Let Me Explain, Pooja Prasanna looks at these questions and more.
