Uttarkashi: No power, no calls, families anxious for news of the missing
Days after the flash floods in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi region, many families remain incommunicado with mobile networks and power supply affected in Harsil, Dharali and Gangotri areas.
Newslaundry reached Raithal village near Bhatwadi block of Uttarkashi district, where Chandri Devi, a resident, said, “My nephew Shubham Negi is 25 years old. There is no news of him since the disaster struck. Since the disaster, we are unable to sleep at night or eat anything.”
“We were already very troubled by the rains, but we had never imagined the devastation that would come. All our houses in Dharali, which were built over generations, are gone…The houses are gone, but my young nephew is missing too. Till now, there is no news of him being alive or dead. There is no electricity here, no food.”
