Delhi’s ‘Thank You Modiji’: Celebration or compulsion?
On September 17, the Delhi government organised a grand event called “Thank You Modiji” at Kartavya Path near India Gate. The area was decorated with giant hoardings highlighting the PM’s achievements while Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led a blood donation drive and even joined in cultural performances. Connaught Place’s Central Park was also lit up, with an exhibition on Modi’s life journey that will run until September 21.
But behind the fanfare, some attendees told us a different story.
Vinod Yadav, one of the participants, said: “We were brought here to swell the crowd. About 100 of us were gathered and sent here in buses that were booked in advance. Nobody came willingly. We were told clearly – if you don’t show up, you won’t get work.”
“All this glitter is fine…But do something real for Delhi too. Just writing thank you doesn’t make things better…don’t thank like this. Give people jobs.”
Watch.
