TV Newsance 318: When Delhi choked, Godi Media celebrated
This week on TV Newsance, Sudhir Chaudhary makes a “revelation” that Newslaundry has been talking about for years – how Indian TV news channels are controlled by political powers and how TRP manipulation has destroyed journalism.
But of course, he’s not talking about today’s Godi media. No, no, this “media dictatorship” apparently existed only before 2014. Because now, as the Godi world believes, “sab changa si!”.
Coming to the most pressing issue at hand, post Diwali pollution has choked the whole of Delhi but it’s not particularly concerning for our Godijeevis. From Diwaliphobia to ‘Hindu festivals are in danger’, the justifications went from bad to worse. These were the very same anchors who spared no effort to blame the AAP government for pollution just a year ago – oh, the irony!
Also in this episode:
How burning firecrackers spiralled into a public health crisis and how TV news, as usual, peddled misinformation.
Is the same tired framing of stubble burning as the main issue correct?
